On July 30, the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Intercepted project is launching a powerful new video campaign to expose a dark reality hiding behind our daily spam: the rise of forced cyber-scam labor. Those random texts and “too-good-to-be-true” job offers in your inbox are often sent by human trafficking victims trapped in brutal overseas compounds. Lured by fake job ads, these individuals have their passports stolen and are forced under threat of violence to execute online scams for 18 hours a day, creating a devastating cycle that exploits both the person losing their savings on one end and the person forced to steal them on the other.
To pull back the curtain on these syndicates, the campaign urges the global community to recognize red flags like overseas jobs requiring tourist visas, hidden workplace locations, or promises of overnight fortunes. By spreading awareness, reporting suspicious recruitment, and sharing the Blue Heart on July 30, we can help protect communities and free the voices on the other line. Because no human being should be trapped behind a scam.
